BetterIT officially launched in the early 2010s, but the story started decades earlier.
Founder Keven Oates Sr. began working in technology during the 1980s, long before cloud computing, cybersecurity, and Microsoft 365 became everyday business conversations. Over the next three decades, he built a reputation for solving problems honestly, building lasting client relationships, and making technology approachable for small businesses.
As the industry evolved, so did BetterIT.
What started with networking projects, structured cabling, and point-of-sale installations gradually became a trusted technology partner for businesses across Pennsylvaniaand New Jersey. Today, BetterIT helps organizations manage everything from cybersecurity and compliance to cloud services, infrastructure, and day-to-day IT support.
While technology has changed dramatically over the years, our philosophy hasn’t.

Rather than building the biggest IT company, the Oates family built the kind of company they would want to work with themselves.
That means taking the time to understand each business, answering questions honestly, and building relationships that last for years rather than months.
Keven Oates Sr. has spent more than 35 years helping businesses solve technology challenges with practical advice and dependable support.
Having started his career during the early days of modern business computing, he’s witnessed every major shift in technology firsthand. That experience allows him to separate passing trends from solutions that genuinely help businesses become more productive, secure, and efficient.
Outside of BetterIT, Keven enjoys history, collecting unique antiques with a story behind them, spending time with his family, and tackling puzzles with his granddaughter.

Having grown up around technology, Keven Jr. learned early that the biggest frustrations for businesses are rarely dramatic system failures. More often, it’s the small, everyday technology issues that quietly waste time, reduce productivity, and frustrate employees.
Today, he specializes in networking, cybersecurity, compliance, Microsoft environments, and the practical technology that keeps businesses running smoothly every day.
Away from work, you’ll usually find Keven playing guitar, exploring new music, or adding another piece to his home recording studio.
